FAQs
It's comforting to know that even in our loneliness, we are not alone. To know that others have been reached the peaks that we, too, have peered down from, and to hear dispatches from the depths is comforting. It's easier to accept your own reality when it's echoed by others. The problem is that so many books address the open-ended uncertainly of life's most relentless losses with an enviable assurance that everything will be okay.
But what if it's not?
What if you're unsure?
What if you have questions?
There is not a book that addresses many of life's big questions through the voices of others. That's why Dear God: Letters Unsent was created.
What is "Dear God: Letters Unsent?":
It's a forthcoming book featuring unsent letters, e-mails and other correspondence addressed to God that thank, question, answer, beg or accept a particular aspect of your life, a life or life in general. The letters can be signed, you can
use a pseudonym (as long as you're not using someone else's name), or you can be anonymous. Your letters can be long or short; funny,
insightful, or heartbreaking; about life, death or anything in between, just as long as they're honest.
Why write letters to God?
Your letters can remind people that no one is alone in this life, even when it feels as if the world has stopped and the only answer you're
receiving is silence.
Sometimes the shade defines the light; your words, questions and answers in your "Dear God" letter can help heal someone or break them
down in a needed way. Your letter can be someone's reason, their exception. And, from your perspective, it's the chance to ask God all the
things you've ever wanted to know, or to say everything you've longed to say.
Who can write and submit a "Dear God" letter?
Anyone can write and submit a letter, as long as it's your own original material, and the letter and its content have not been published,
uploaded or submitted anywhere else. And, as stated above, the content must be true.
What should my "Dear God" letter be about?
It can be about anything affecting your life: gaining hope, hopelessness, confusion, blessings, being thankful, religion, faith, spirituality,
pregnancy, adoption, miscarriage, abortion, suicide, addiction, drugs, alcohol, smoking, suicide attempts, feeling suicidal, questioning faith,
love, friendship, growing apart, loss of a parent, loss of a child, loss of a spouse, loss of a friend, loss of a pet, death, disability, life, faith, anxiety,
job loss, stress, sickness, pain, cancer, HIV/AIDS, terminal illness, mental health, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychotic, incest,
abuse, rape, sexual abuse, sexual assault, domestic abuse, dating, marriage, sex, divorce, separation, child custody, fear, cheating, adultery,
pornography, child abuse, neglect, bankruptcy, foreclosure, money woes, body image issues, body dysmorphia, eating disorders like anorexia,
bulimia or exercise bulimia, food addiction, obesity, low self-esteem, end of life issues, loneliness, war, deployment, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, bullying, jail, racism, prejudice, hate, sexism, ageism, stereotypes, homophobia, being gay, bisexual, transgendered or lesbian, post partum, injustice, bigotry, sexual confusion, gender identity disorder, violence, immigration, poverty, cutting, fighting with your kids, parents, siblings, in-laws or other family member, career stress, work/family balance, gender inequality, ignorance, or oppression, just to name a few -- this is your safe haven, so just be honest.
.
Does my letter have to be positive and happy if that's not how I feel?
The letter can say whatever you'd like it to, in the manner you want. After all, it's your life, and there's no wrong way to feel. I'm not judging.
What religion do I have to be to submit a letter?
Any, all or none.
What if I don't believe in God? Can I still submit a letter?
Yes. Whether you pray to God, Jesus, Buddha, Mary, Jehovah, Allah, Vishnu, are agnostic, atheist or anything else, you can submit a letter.
How long should my letter be?
Whatever length it takes to tell your story.
I don't want to use my real name on the letter. Can I still submit one?

What language should my letter be in?
English only, please. Please keep in mind that all letters will be edited, so your English doesn't have to be perfect or even very good, as long as we can understand your meaning.
